And today Google officially marks the launch of the new Gmail. Currently, Google is still “hiding” it for most users. If you weren’t selected by the company as part of its feature beta program, chances are you won’t see the new Gmail interface and its functionality right away.
However, you can easily turn it on by following the steps below:
Step 1: Go to your mail box, in the upper right corner click on the gear icon > select View all settings.
Step 2: Select tab Chat and meet. Below you choose Google Chat then press OK. Finally press Save changes to switch interface immediately.
Step 3: You will receive a notification that the new interface has been enabled.
In fact, this new version of the interface has not changed much. However the items conversation, Room and Meeting are displayed in the sidebar below the mail folders.
- Google Chat is the main chat application.
- Google Rooms allows you to join chat rooms.
- Google Meet for video calls.
Google has improved the integration of its Google Docs service in addition to that. If someone posts a link to a document, you can now open it in chat to show it immediately; Note that this feature currently does not work in some cases, for example, if you received a link in an email or chat pop-up.
Gmail users can change their status in the top right corner when the new interface is enabled.
You also have the option to toggle the active state including:
- Automatic: Based on your activity.
- Do not bother: Mute all notifications.
- Set as absent: Are not available at work.
In addition, if you do not want the new interface, you can turn off this interface by returning to the above tips, but instead of selecting Google Chat then choose Turn off.
