GIF animations are everywhere – Twitter chats, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Reddit, and even inside popular keyboards like SwiftKey.
They are a fun and creative way to express your message or lighten up a conversation. Everyone loves sharing GIFs and viewing them, so why not set your favorite animated photo (GIF) as the lock screen wallpaper on your iPhone.
Note that Apple only allows setting Live Photos as moving wallpapers on iPhone. It does not allow to set GIF images directly as live wallpaper. But here are some simple ways that we will use to convert GIF into Live Photos and then set it as live wallpaper on iPhone.
Use GIPHY to turn GIFs into Live Wallpaper on iPhone
Step 1: Download and open the GIPHY app on your iPhone. You’ll see popular GIFs above the fold. You can also search to your liking. Click on the one you like.
Step 2: Tap the three vertical dots on the bottom right → Tap Convert to Live Photo from the bottom pop-up.
Step 3: According to your preference, touch Save as Live Photo (Full Screen) or Save as Live Photo (Fit to Screen).
Step 4: To enter Settings > Wallpaper > Choose a New Wallpaper. > click on item Live Photos.
Step 5: Select the photo you just created in GIPHY > click Set.
Step 6: Click Set Lock Screen. (Live Photos don’t work on Home Screen, so there’s no point in choosing the option Set Home Screen or Set Both.
Now lock your phone. On the lock screen, press and hold your finger for a second or two and you should see the GIF start working.
In the steps above, I used a GIF that is publicly available on GIPHY. Let’s say you have a GIF file that you downloaded from some other source like Google, 9GAG, Twitter, Reddit; Or you have a GIF that you created yourself. How would you set this GIF as your lock screen wallpaper?
